A good book for chord system instruction for all keyboard players - Chord Piano is Fun by T.K. Gopforth

                                                                              http://www.mecatx.ning.com - FOR NONACCORDIONIST

There are two main styles of chromatic accordion. The B System - the is played in Europe, Russia & China, and the C System that is played in the US. Most diatonic players - find that converting to B system from the diatonic keyboard is the easiest.

The music for both read the same - the button either go UP the row or DOWN the row - depending on which system you have.

Personally - I wish I had started on a Chromatic - the fingering and dexterity is so much faster on the chromatic.

Actually, there seems to be a dividing line in Europe that corresponds roughly to the border of the Eastern bloc. It was much more sharply defined in 1989 when the Berlin Wall fell.

People in the Eastern Bloc generally played B system, because that was what was taught in the Soviet Union. As the former Easterners migrated into Western Europe, they brought their B system instruments with them, so there is some exfiltration of B system players. The old-timers in France, for example, play C system. Richard Galliano is a prime example.

In modern Germany it's about a 50-50 ratio.

Interesting - Thanks!
