My dad gave the SPJST Lodge 80 in Holland, Texas 4 acres to build their meeting/dance hall on in 1947, I was 12 years old and our house was probably 100 yards up the hill from the hall. Back then they had dances almost ever week with Um pah bands at least once a month. Around 1949, I ordered a harmonica from XERF ViaConunia (sp) Mexico, just over the river from Del Rio, Texas. Cost was $1.98 included a 10 key, double brass reeds hormonica, song sheets and easy to learn instructions, with a 8x10 signed picture of Wayne Rainey. I was given a Horner 10 key, 2 spoon bass, accordian. It had seen better days, but I learned to play the hormonica and the same notes and principal applied to the accordian. Years later I purchased a two row button Horner accordian that I still have and play by ear. I met my wife at the SP in Holland, Texas and we just celebrated our 60th anniversary.
