1. Beginner Diatonic Accordion Lessons (GCF) - taught by Shelia Lee (11 to 12 Sat)
Train the Trainer Opportunity
Come and join the WAVE – of keyboard accordionists learning to play the Diatonic. It is simple – MUCH easier (and cheaper) than a keyboard accordion and a great way to play with the Tex/Mex (Conjunto/Noténo) Cajun, and Irish communities.
There will be a GCF diatonic accordion for all attendees to play on. You will learn to play chords (both hands) to simple songs in Key of C & G and an instructional DVD and sheet music will be available to purchase. Learn to play so you can learn to teach. Accordion Level – Scratch - Beginner
2. Convention Jam Orchestra – 2 hr Rehearsal on Thursday (Shelia Lee, Director)

This was a New Orchestra idea introduced at 2009 NAA Convention with great success. Come join the fun. If you have ever wanted to play along with other musicians and did not’t know how – come and learn how. You will be reading simple lead line songs along with back tracks (to help you keep the beat). The sheet music and back tracks will be downloadable from the internet to practice in advance. These can be used for your personal performances. Accordion Level – Intermediate
This year’s rehearsal will also include much more instruction about HOW to PLAY accompaniment chords and riffs when not playing lead.
This is a workshop – not a rehearsal. If there is a performance time scheduled – you are not required to perform – so NO PRESURE – come and learn. Interested participants will probably perform during the evening show.
3. You Already Know it ALL – Using the stradella bass (all scales and chords can be learned) Taught by Shelia Lee (9 a.m. on Friday)

Bring your accordion. Scales are the basis for most improvisation theory. You already can name ALL the scales and the sharps and flats in each key. This will be proven to you! No matter how experienced of a performer you are, you are NOT practicing your scales, drills, and arpeggios ENOUGH.
This workshop will motivate you to LEARN the theory behind your scales and use this knowledge as a stepping-stone toward improvisation. A quick review of the theory behind scales, arpeggios, and circle of fifths. Accordion Level – Beginner to Intermediate
Book Provided - 18 pages, full instructions, illustrations, scale sheets, chord sheets, arpeggios, and some drills.
4. KISS: Keep it Simple – Use your chord knowledge (How to add chords to lead line music) taught by Shelia Lee (11 a.m. on Friday)

Bring your accordion. Using your knowledge of Major/Minor Scales for self-accompaniment, you will learn to break away from the written music. You will use your knowledge of your major scales to add up to 42 different chord structures to simple lead line sheet music Also - an introduction to HOW to decide WHAT TO ADD and other simple rhythmic right and left hand styles. Accordion Level –Intermediate
Introduction to playing along with a pre-recorded musical accompaniment.
CD with Back Tracks & Book Provided - 18 pages, full instructions, illustrations, chord sheets, and printed lead sheet. (New collection of songs for 2010 – also 2008 & 2009 collections available)
5. Breathe your Music – Bellow techniques and Expression taught by Shelia Lee (9 a.m., Sat)

Learn how to get past PUSH & PULL! (Bring your accordion) Violinists and vocalist already know what is needed to express their music. They utilize exercises dedicated to the technique of tonal delivery. Accordionists benefit from learning these vocalize and technique drills too. Accordion expression starts with the bellows.
