Thank you all for your encouragement.  I found a company in Philly that rents accordions.  Last night was my first meeting with teacher.  Was worried she would find something wrong with my accordion.  She tried it and said it was very good for someone starting out.  First lesson is tonight at 6pm.  My teacher just moved to my area from Germany 5 months ago.  She was not familar with the Palmer hughes book I had, but liked it.  Really enjoyed meeting her.  We spoke for awhile about what kind of music I liked.  Then she played two songs from my favorite movie with accordion music in the story.  That was without me telling her I loved that movie. Thanks again, especially  to Sheila Lee for her advice.
