From Jim Kettlewell

Thanks much to a couple of you who suggested the Bavarian Grill as a place for dinner and live accordion music. I did go there last weekend while in Dallas and I took four of my family with me. We had a fine time, the food was very good and we heard Alan and Manfred giving a nice show. I appreciate the help from you Texas Accordionists. I'm now back in Ohio where we have real winters so I won't be a very active poster on the blog, but I do wish you all the best. Thanks. Jim Kettlewell, Canton,… Continue

Looking for Mexican sheet music for G/C/F diatonic accordion

Hi:

I just joined TAN. I came across the sheet music for La Cucaracha posted by Mr. Kott and adapted by Sheila Lee. Is there an explanation for the notation used? I have some music for a Hohner Club IIB which uses the Handshuh adapted note system which is somewhat similar. Although I understand in principal how the note system works, I need an explanation. Also, are there other traditional Mexican songs or corridos written in Sheila Lee's system? I've been looking for Mexican… Continue

Anthony Smrke

My name is Anthony Smrke and I'm an accordion player. Actually I've been playing for over 50 years - a really long time. My mother was a typical Italian mother, my father was Slovenian; and I was the first born male in our family, therefore when I was very young it was decreed that I learn how to play the accordion; and so I was made to take lessons. Being an active 8 year old who was required to learn a musical instrument that I really did not wish to play caused a great deal of stress and…

Accordion Music at Our Wedding Reception

Great News!!!

I finally got "re hitched!" On March 24, 2013, Dr. Julia A. Wagner of Houston, Texas and I tied the knot at the SPJST Lodge 88 in Houston.

Julie is the one on the left. She studied guitar with me about 40 years ago, and she has also taken care of my dogs from time to time. She plays the 5-string banjo and is learning how to play the…

World Accordion Day

I was fortunate enough to be invited to participate in the World Accordion Day broadcast at Shelia Lee's HAPI studio in Pasadena, Texas. This took place right after the Boni Mauricio diatonic accordion workshop. After the big jam sessions, we went out for dinner, then returned to participate in the international event. The US was given two time slots near the end of the day. Joann Cochran Summers presented her ensemble well and discussed her pedagogy program at the U of Missouri in Kansas…
